60 years of NATO: 60 years of conspiracies, secret paramilitary organizations to prepare coups, huge military expenditures taken from working-class incomes and social services, development of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons that can eliminate humanity and the whole planet a hundred times. A huge war machine which, in the name of peace, aims solely at safeguarding capitalist profit, threatening the labor movement and preventing socialist revolutions.

Today, the economic and political crisis of the capitalist system demonstrates that this system is useless and dangerous; it plunges the whole planet into poverty, deprivation, unemployment, flexibility, abolition of democratic, political and union rights and freedoms; and it augments imperialist invasions and wars between imperialist countries. The offensive launched by capitalists around the world against the labor movement is brutal and total.

Behind the celebrations for NATO’s sixty years, the prime ministers of capitalist governments of all countries of the NATO alliance are planning to improve NATO and expand its role on a world scale: a) to militarize societies, increase military expenditure and use the army all the more often against the labor movement and its struggles; b) to extend the NATO’s war machine to imperialist invasions around the world, murdering tens of millions of people just to preserve the profits of the multinationals. In their common planning, European and American imperialists are in complete agreement. Nevertheless, they disagree over the distribution of their loot; therefore, European imperialists are planning to develop a European army next to that of NATO, in order to promote at the same time their own particular interests.

The workers and the youth of the countries which take part in NATO must fight to force their governments to withdraw from it; to remove NATO’s military bases; and to disband this military-imperialist alliance. As workers and youth, we must be in solidarity with the Palestinians, the Iraqi and the Afghani, who are fighting against the imperialists. We must build our own international organizations to stand up against the international organizations of the multinationals (IMF, WTO, World Bank, etc) and the imperialist European Union: We must build international unions and a revolutionary workers’ International.
